In our earlier article natural ways in eradication of H. pylori we have discussed but not much about effectiveness of probiotics. Health beneficial roles of probiotics appear as myriad. Numerous studies have shown positive results in H. pylori eradication. However in most cases probiotics were used in combinations. Therefore I had few questions in my mind. As friendly microbes probiotics compete with pathogenic bacteria but how much it can exert its effect against H. Pylori. Can probiotics do alone or play a supportive roles. Therefore I decided to dig more. And here my finding in effectiveness of different Probiotic strains in Helicobacter pylori eradication from stomach naturally.

Effectiveness of Probiotic strains in Helicobacter pylori eradication from stomach naturally
Mainly three probiotics strains have been identified against H. Pylori eradication in present.
By producing urease H. pylori can save itself from stomach acid. In vitro Lactobacillus acidophilus may hamper H. pylori urease activity. Also lactobacilli produce lactic acid, which can counteract H. pylori-induced hypochlorhydria. (1) In combination Lactobacillus had shown significant result (2) However in mono therapy rate of eradication of Lactobacilli is weighted as 16%. Boonyaritichaikij et al found cheese with Lactobacillus gasseri for 12 month had shown 29.3% eradicate rate.(1) Francavilla R et al. found Lactobacillus reuteri inhibits H. pylori growth and significantly reduces in antibiotic-associated side effects when combines. (3)
Bifidobacterium is one of the favorite microbiota used for the prevention of gastrointestinal infection, and it is commonly incorporated in fermented dairy products or food supplements. In vitro study Bifidobacterium exerts anti-H. pylori activity and compete with it and also inhibits adhesion to the gastric mucosa. (4) Study also found regular intake of of yogurt containing Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium effectively suppressed H. pylori infection.(5)
Saccharomyces boulardii is not a bacteria, is a type of fungus sourced from the skin of plants such as lychee and mangosteen. S. boulardii is used treating and preventing in various gastrointestinal problems like diarrhea. The addition of S. boulardii significantly increased the eradication rate. However in mono therapy a pooled data analysis has given eradication weight-age as 16%.(1) Saccharomyces boulardii has a positive effect on reducing the colonization of H. pylori but has less capability on eradication when used as single therapy.(6)
Multi strain probiotics has showing better result than single strain. Rosania et al found multi-strain probiotics formula (S. termophilus, L. acidophilus, B. longum, L. plantarum, B. brevis, L. paracasei, B. infantis, L. delbrueckii) had shown 32.5% eradication rate after 4 weeks. (7)
Probiotics had a positive effect on inhibiting of H pylori infection mediated inflammation. (2) Although probiotics have not showing as much as effective when used alone it supports other therapy in considerable extent. Probiotics also reduce adverse effect of drug like antibiotics. Also if you wish to support eradication rate of H. Pylori you need to check probiotics strains like Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, Saccharomyces boulardii. Although probiotics is very safe you should not use probiotics more specifically probiotics with Saccharomyces boulardii strain when you are critically ill.
